Services of the Library in the Forest

Inter-Library Loan

Interlibrary loan (ILL) acquires books, photocopies of non-circulating materials (such as magazine articles), and government publications not already owned by the public libraries of Jefferson County.

ILL request forms may be submitted in person at any public library in Jefferson County or online. To submit an ILL request online, go to FirstSearch and search for your desired title. After locating your selection, click on the ILL icon and fill out the online form to process your ILL request. For additional information, please visit www.jclc.org.

Friends Bookstore The Friends of the Vestavia Hills Library Used Book Store offers a large selection of fiction, non-fiction (cooking, travel, religion, textbooks, etc.), children’s books, records, paperbacks, magazines and more. Come in and browse. All proceeds of sales benefit the library. The bookstore is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm and Sundays from 1pm - 4pm.

Laptops for Check Out

Laptops are available for checkout to library patrons 18 or over with a valid JCLC library card and drivers license. Library laptops are for IN-LIBRARY USE ONLY and are subject to library fines. They may be used in the meeting rooms only with permission at checkout.

Meeting Room Reservations Are you looking for a space to host a civic meeting, educational lecture, or other event available to the public? The Library in the Forest currently has six meeting rooms available for reservation. Please contact the Administrative Office at 978-0162 for availability, information and scheduling. Applicants for meeting room use must have a current library card.

Downloadable media available 24/7 through Jefferson County Library Cooperative making your library always open! This service is great for readers who may be transportation challenged or for individuals with a print disability looking for accessible eBooks.

As part of the Jefferson County Library system, The Vestavia Hills library has become a part of every Jefferson County library, linked by library computers. There are also computers for public use, both for adults and children, and a wealth of information thus becomes available to all library patrons.
